          DREW'S FAIR FOR          EMERGING RESEARCHERS

Description

The Drew University Chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon would like to invite you to the Third Annual Fair for Emerging Researchers, wherein we will be hosting a community science fair with the goal of fostering a research-oriented discussion among middle school students. Much like the last two years, our main goal is to have students explore the scientific method and learn how to ask scientific questions and answer them through experimentation. We hope to engage students ranging from fifth to eighth grade in a yearlong process of designing and conducting experiments beginning with the development of a question and a hypothesis. The final goal is to host a poster session where students can describe their work to a panel of judges, who will provide constructive feedback on their presentation and research methodology.

We hope to have an initial meeting with interested students to outline the scientific method and describe the qualities of a scientific research project. Throughout the 2018-2019 school year we hope that teachers will provide proper guidance for students to conduct experiments. Our organization hopes to assist with the implementation of student projects and the preparation of a formal presentation of the research through checking in during the months preceding the event. This scientific exploration will culminate as a science fair held on Saturday, March 16th, 2019 at Drew University.
